Champion Hurdle 2011

At 3.20pm on Tuesday 15th March 2011, the Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy will take place as the fourth race of the Cheltenham Festival.

The Champion Hurdle is considered one of the most prestigious hurdling events on the racing calendar. It is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle which is open to horses aged four years or older and is run on the Old Course covering 2 miles and a 1/2 furlong with eight hurdles to be jumped.

The illustrious list of horses who have had triple wins at the Champion Hurdle include Hattons Grace, Sir Ken and Persian War but more recently Istabraq, whose successes came in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

Last year, in 2010, Go Native was the odds on favourite but despite the huge support didn’t finish in the top three spots which ultimately went to Binocular at 7/1, Kyber Kim at 8/1 and Zaynar at 10/1.

This year the favourite appears to be Binocular again, though being favourite didn’t help many of the horses in last years festival…
