Coral Cup 2012
The fifth race on day two of the 2012 Cheltenham Festival, the Coral Cup is a Class A Grade 3 handicap hurdle race run over 2m5f and is open to horses aged 5 years old and upwards. It is the first of the big handicap hurdles run at the meeting and is watched very closely by serious punters.
Most races have out and out favourites and they’re usually pretty well known to race fans but in this race the most important thing is how well a horse is handicapped and for that reason it’s very difficult to determine an ante post favourite though the bookies will still try!
With £70,000 in prize money, the race is a big earner for the winning horse connections and last year the honours went to Davy Russell who rode his second winner of the day on Carlito Brigante, giving the Irish five wins from five races on Day 2 at Cheltenham 2011.
