Johnny Henderson Annual Steeple Chase 2011

The seventh and final race of both Day four and the 2011 Cheltenham Festival and it’s down to the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Steeple Chase to round off the festival in fine style. A Class A, Grade 3 handicap chase run over 2m and is open to horses aged five years old and upwards. With a total prize fund of £75,000, the race is just as important as many of the others run over the course of the four day festival.

The bookies generally get it right with the race, ultimately seeing a larger number of short odd horses taking the title including Oh Crick at 7/1 (2009) and Tiger Cry at 15/2 (2008). In 2010 Nigel Twiston-Davies took the title with Pigeon Island who went off at 16/1.

This year the contenders appear to be Dave’s Dream, Pepe Simo, Mad Max and Cornas and if for no other reason than quite a lot of people are called ‘Dave’, expect a large amount to go on this horse on the day!
