National Hunt Steeple Chase 2012

It’s Ladies Day at Cheltenham today, the second day of the festival and the first race to kick off events is the National Hunt Steeple Chase. This is a Class B chase run over four miles and is only open to novices aged five years old and upwards.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the amateur jockeys and with a total prize fund of £75,000 up for grabs, it’s also an excellent way to get a look at some up and coming horses as previous winners include Butlers Cabin, Poker De Sivola and Tricky Trickster.

The 2011 was Chicago Grey, for trainer Gordon Elliott with Derek O’Connor on board. With the 2012 Grand National in his sights, it’s unlikely he will run again so this year the bookies have been busy weighing up their options for ante-post favourite.
