Pertemps Final 2012
The Pertemps Final is the second race on day three of the Cheltenham Festival 2012 and is a Class A listed hurdle run over three miles. Open to horses aged five years old and upwards who have qualified for the final, this is an eagerly anticipated race with a number of strong contenders ready to battle it out for the £70,000 prize pot on offer this year.
Grands Crus was one of the favourites for this last year but didn’t do much in the race which eventually went to Conor O’Farrell on Buena Vista. This was O’Farrells first time at Cheltenham, and to win on his first time out is an incredible achievement. Following the race O’Farrell said: “I’m speechless, to be honest. I just cannot thank Mr Pipe and the owners enough for giving me the chance.”
A couple of things in mind when picking your horse. Firstly, the younger horses don’t fair very well in this race and it’s really those with long distance experience that tend to do the best.
And though the favourite is bound to change, even on the day, only one favourite has won in the last 17 years! 2011 winner Buena Vista, who despite also winning in 2010 went off at 20/1 and 16/1 in 2010. The 2009 winner Kayf Aramis was 16/1, 2008 winner Ballyfitz was 18/1, 2007 winner Oscar Park was 14/1 and 2006 winner Kadoun was 50/1!
