It’s Ladies Day at the Festival and the two big races today are the Ryan Air Chase (they charge the jockeys £10 to weight in!) and the Ladbrokes Hurdle. So far the bookies are getting the better of the punters, hopefully that’ll change today! Let’s hope so!

“My love for the Festival burns as bright as ever and this Festival day in particular could be memorable for the Henderson family. For a start, we have a very real chance of giving the Queen a Cheltenham victory in the Ryanair Chase. Barbers Shop has run so many good races in defeat for Her Majesty. Today could be the day that his efforts are rewarded by a famous win, but we’ve also got Petit Robin trying to win us the prize.

At the end of the day, my daughter Camilla rides in a ladies’ charity race that will raise a substantial sum for Cancer Research UK. What’s not to love about all that?”

Wednesday’s Tips, Queen Mother Chase…

If you had a profitable day on Tuesday then you’ll probably fancy attacking the bookies again in the day’s big race The Queen Mother Chase. The big money is piling on Master Minded in the Queen Mother Chase, but this horse has more than a few doubters.

Master Minded is one of those horse’s who seems to split opinions from the pundits, trainers, jockey and punters, some claim he’s unbeatable whilst others point to past blunders and his inconsistent form. One thing is sure, if the Master Minded of old turns up at Cheltenham on Wednesday then no one will stop him.

Over at the Betfair blog Wayne Bailey warns:

Yes, he’s by far the best horse in the race and yes, he looked superb last-time out, but even his staunchest fans would agree that he’s not as consistent as we’d like. An injured rib was to blame for his defeat in the Connaught Chase in December which is fair enough but let’s face it, his previous two races in the Kerrygold Champion Chase and the Queen Mother Champion Chase were not as impressive as before, even though he won both. In my eyes, he looked a horse in decline until last-time at Newbury where he was awesome before a blunder at the last. Ruby blames himself but it’s still a chink in the seven-year-old’s armour.

Another tipster warning about this short priced favourite is ‘The Couch’ from Paddy Powers blog. Incidentally ‘The Couch’ plums for our tip in the race ‘Forpadydeplasterer’ he’s an Irish horse, but more importantly he’s from Cork! You can currently get him at 9/1 on Paddy Power, with A.P. on board he has to be worth a punt and let’s face it – who wouldn’t want to see the Goat Racing Syndicate go crazy again this year if he wins!!

Supreme Novices Hurdle Tips

If you want the absolute best in tips then Racing Post is the place to go. For the Supreme Novices Hurdle, the first race of this year’s Cheltenham Festival, they have laid out how they think the race will go and in doing so provided vital information on the shakers and movers in the race so that you can make the best decision when it comes to backing your favourite for the race!

Ben Hutton of Racing Post believes that there is added spice this year because of Dunguib, however, from an in-running point of view there is very little that is worthy of mention. It looks to be the case that there is only one front runner, namely Cootehill, but it is highly unlikely that Paddy Brennan will be allowed an uncontested lead as this is the Supreme Novices’, and the adrenalin will ensure the gallop is a strong one.

The in-running angle of most interest could come via Dunguib, as he hasn’t looked a natural jumper of hurdles, and if he hits one or two then he’s likely to go bigger than odds-on during the race. If he is good enough, as he could well be, Dunguib could be able to defy a couple of jarring errors, and therefore his most ardent fans who keep the faith could end up getting an excellent price in-running.

Front runners: Cootehill.

Tracking leaders: Blackstairmountain, Dan Breen, Fiulin (could lead), Flat Out (could lead), Hollins, Menorah, Oscar Whisky, Vino Griego.

Mid-division: Chain Of Command, Far Away So Close (can race prominently), Mister Wall Street, Dream Esteem.

Held-up: Dunguib (can race prominently), General Miller, Get Me Out Of Here, Spring Jim, Takestan.

McCoy & Denman Vs Ruby & Kauto Star

It’s still a little early to be tipping possible winners at Cheltenham. However, I can’t see many pundits looking further than Denman and Kauto Star in the Gold Cup.

The first duel in 2008 between the relentless galloping of Denman, unbeaten in eight starts, and the lightning-fast finish of Kauto Star had been billed as the most exciting Gold Cup clash since Arkle beat Mill House in 1964. There is no reason to think that 2010 will be any less exciting, the added bonus for racing fans is that Denman is likely to have Tony McCoy on board whilst Ruby Walsh will saddle up on Kauto.

McCoy & Denman are the perfect match, no doubt they will bring the best out of each other, but will it be enough to get past Ruby & Kauto? If you’re interested in some ante-post action then Timeform reckon Kauto Stars odds of winning the Gold Cup are much shorter than the 2.4 he’s currently trading at on Betfair.
