MIDNIGHT CHASE put up a superb front-running performance under Dougie Costello when winning the feature race on day one of Cheltenham’s two-day meeting.

The 6-1 shot was sent into the lead at flagfall and remained at the head of affairs to see off all challengers for a ten-length success.

The evergreen 11-year-old Lacdoudal was a gallant second for Philip Hobbs and Richard Johnson after racing up with the leaders for most of the two circuits, while Ouzbeck ran on well to take third under Jack Doyle.

Winning trainer Neil Mulholland said: “The horse has run here four times, winning twice and being placed the other twice, so obviously he likes the course.

“He will be back in November as he seems to handle any sort of ground.”
