Time is a fickle thing and it looks like it’s just run out for Paul Nicholls and his bid to get Tataniano ready for the Cheltenham Queen Mother Champion Chase in a couple of weeks.

Following an injury where he torn some muscles a few weeks back, Nicholls had hoped that with enough preparation he would be back in and ready to contend the Champion Chase on march 16th but has now confirmed that this is not the case.

He will now be saved for a target later in the season which, at this stage, looks likely to be Aintree and/or Punchestown. Tataniano had been around 12/1 for the Champion Chase but with the likes of Master Minded, Big Zeb and Somersby all still in contention it could have been a very tricky race for him anyway.
