The second race on the opening day of the 2012 Cheltenham Festival, the Arkle Chase, was run over 2m and 13 fences and even the £130,000 prize money on offer couldn’t tempt more than six runners in the race including odds on favourite Sprinter Sacre. Al Ferof and Ruby Walsh was there to challenge as was Cue Card who led from the off.
But a HUGE mistake from Al Ferof, who landed on the 4th last fence meant he couldn’t get back in the game, at which point Sprinter Sacre, under Barry Geraghty, stormed ahead and barely broke a sweat coming up the hill. So cool, he romped home ahead of Cue Card and Menorah in third with Al Ferof in 4th.
1. Spriner Sacre – Barry Geraghty 8/11f
2. Cue Card – Joe Tizzard 7/1
3. Menorah – Richard Johnson 9/1
