Following the latest round of declarations, eight horses will contest the 2012 Queen Mother Champion Chase on Wednesday, 14th march 2012. Heading the field will be the race favourite and Henry De Bromhead trained Sizing Europe, complete with his biggest rival Big Zeb.
Sizing Europe looks set to repeat his win of 12 months ago when he defeated the previous year’s winner Big Zeb who will no doubt try to regain his title.
He’s up against it and was beaten 15 lengths by Sizing Europe in the Tied Cottage Chase at Punchestown last month. However, his trainer, Colm Murphy, is expecting a better performance from Big Zeb this time.
But nothing is as cut and dry as it seems and if every favourite won every race then where would the fun be? Challenging the two favourites this year are the Noel Meade-trained Realt Dubh, Nicky Hendersons-trained Finian’s Rainbow and completing the line-up are Gauvain, I’m So Lucky, Kauto Stone and Wishfull Thinking.
The two withdrawals at the 48-hour final declaration stage were Somersby and Blazing Tempo, who have both opted for Thursday’s 2012 Ryanair Chase.
