He may have been 6/1 to win the 2012 Cheltenham Gold Cup and the the only one considered able to give Long Run and Kauto Star a real run for their money but novice chaser Grands Crus will not be going for the Gold Cup and will instead run in the RSA Chase.

Favourite for the RSA, Grands Crus is as short as 13/8 with Paddy Power bookmakers and the recent confirmation of his participation will shorten those odds even further.

After weeks of weighing up his options, trainer David Pipe, finally made the decision that Grands Crus, who is unbeaten in three races over fences this season, would stick with the company of other Novices despite being under serious consideration for the Gold Cup.

He now faces such tough competition as Bobs Worth, Sir Des Champs and First Lieutenant and if the bookmakers don’t want to go bankrupt this week, they better hope that one of them can beat him to the winning post.
