Peddlers Cross has been targeted to run in the Jewson Novices Chase at Cheltenham. The star of Donald McCains yard had been entered into the Jewson and the Arkle. Fans of the horse were desperate to see him take on the much fancied Sprinter Sacre in what looked like being one of the highlights of the Festival.
Sprinter Sacre beat the McCain horse by 16 lengths when the two last met at Kempton in December. McCain confirmed the news on his Betfair blog, saying: “After a lot of discussion between myself, Jason and owner Tim Leslie, it has been decided that Peddlers Cross will head to the Jewson Novices’ Chase. Adding “Because of his problems after Kempton, we haven’t been able to school him as intensively as we would have liked and feel that going half a stride slower in the longer race makes sense.”
The news disappointed fans and also those who had been backing Peddlers Cross in the ante-post markets. One unlucky backer exclaimed “I give up! Peddlers for the Jewsons. Come on, really? That’s £70 of ante-post bets down the sh*tter”.
In typical fashion the bookmakers reacted by shortening the odds on Sprinter Sacre.
