Cheltenham is by far Poquelin’s best performing race track with 14 starts resulting in five wins and three second places. But despite this obvious success, his form is mixed and often haphazzard with relatively no consistency despite always being very close to the starting favourite with the bookmakers.
This will be his third shot at the Ryanair Chase with a second and fourth in the last two runnings of the race at the Cheltenham Festival.
Finishing second to The Giant Bolster in a Grade 3 handicap on Saturday 28th January, Paul Nicholls was clearly very happy saying;
“He ran a great race. He’d been ill since his run at Cheltenham over Christmas and we needed to get a run into him and it will be straight to the Ryanair Chase now,” said Nicholls.
“He falls a bit short of top class but he’s run well in the Ryanair in the past and I feel we’re better running him in that than a handicap.”
