The countdown to the 2020 Cheltenham Festival has begun in earnest and the bookmakers are falling over themselves to come up with new and eventive betting specials. So what can we expect in terms of enhanced offers and promotions as we get ever closer opening day on Tuesday March 10th?
First off, the odds now are probably as good as they are going to get. And there are plenty of races that are Non Runner No Bet so even if your chosen horse doesn’t run you will get your money back. On top of that there are plenty of specials regarding the odds, outside of the runners.
Paddy Power Betting Specials
Nicky Henderson To Train 3 Or More Winners At The Cheltenham Festival – 8/11.
This isn’t exactly the most generous of offers but the chances are it’s a bet that will come off. So while the margins are small, there is still money to be made. Henderson is a Cheltenham specialist. The trainer could start his campaign off with a bang if Shishkin can prove his worth in the opening race – the Supreme Novices Hurdle. He also has the likes of Altior, Champ, Chantry House and Epatante in his arsenal.
It would quite the shock if he couldn’t bag another three Cheltenham races in 2020. But if you think he can do even better, Paddy Power are offering 5/2 on Henderson training four winners and 6/1 that he can train five winners.
Willie Mullins To Train 8 Or More Winners At The Cheltenham Festival – 16/1
A nearly impossible task for Willie Mullins but if you think the Irish Champion trainer has what it takes to rule over the Festival this year then you can get 16/1 on him training eight or more winners.
More realistic, but still a mammoth task is the 2/1 on offer for him to train at least six winners. With the likes of Asterion Forlonge, Cash Back, Sharjah and Al Boum Photo all solid contenders, he could certainly come close.
Similar to Paddy Power, Betfair have also come out with a range of Cheltenham betting specials. How does 12/1 on Tiger Roll to win both the Cross Country Chase and the Grand National sound?
Tiger Roll has completed the double twice and is almost certainly going for a third attempt. However, this bet is ante-post so if for any reason Tiger Rolls wins and Cheltenham but doesn’t go to Aintree then you lose your bet.
Ireland to win the Prestbury Cup – 8/15. This is basically a competition between Ireland and Great Britain. Whichever country produces the most winners, wins the cup – and the bragging rights. To win it, either country must get at least 14 winners. In 2019 it was a draw with each team taking 11 winners.
Betway Betting Specials
Moving away from trainer specials, Betway are a bit more straightforward. They are offering 3/1 on Gordon Elliott becoming the Top Trainer at the Festival with 4/1 on Davy Russell to get Top Jockey.
They are also offering better odds on Nicky Henderson to trainer three or more winners. At evens, the odds are short but better than the 8/11 from Paddy Power. And sticking with Nicky Henderson, you can get 8/1 on him trained the 1-2 home in the Champion Hurdle. He runs Epatante and Pentland Hills in that race so a 1-2 finish is a distinct possibility.
So there you have some of the best betting specials for the 2020 Cheltenham Festival. But remember, this is a festival that frequently sees surprise winners as well as hot favourites in the winner’s enclosure!
