Mares Novices Hurdle Tips

Formerly known as the Dawn Run, this race is open to fillies and mares aged four or older.

It is run on the New Course over a trip just longer than two miles. There are eight flights of hurdles to be jumped.

This is another race that has been dominated by Willie Mullins since its inception in 2016.

Four of the last five winners have all been French bred.

A key trial for this race is the Solerina Hurdle where two of the last three winners have gone on to score here.

Runners To Watch

Below are selected runners who hold entries for the Mares Novices Hurdle 2021.

Karl Hedley provides some recent form notes to help point you in the right direction of identifying the winner.

Hook Up – Willie Mullins

Hook Up ran a massive race in Grade One company last time when beaten by Appreciate It and will benefit from only racing against her own sex.

She has only had a handful of starts over hurdles but her trainer has won every renewal of this race since it was established back in 2016.

She has a bit of work to do to reverse recent form with Royal Kahala, but if anyone can unlock any further potential it is certainly Willie Mullins.

A competitive heat, but she holds solid claims.

Royal Kahala – Peter Fahey

Royal Kahala has improved on each start for Peter Fahey and only found Roseys Hollow too strong in a Grade Three at Fairyhouse last month in the Solerina Mares Novices’ Hurdle.

Could well turn the tables here now that she is nine pounds better off at the weights.

Her best runs have always come with plenty of cut in the ground and her chances will be enhanced further should any rain fall.

Roseys Hollow – Jonathan Sweeney

Roseys Hollow looked a class apart when wining her two most recent starts at Fairyhouse.

The progressive mare is owned by JP McManus and has plenty of stamina in reserve having won over a quarter of a mile further than this on those last two runs.

Her trainer does relatively well with what limited numbers of horses he has and despite a significant turnaround in the weights with Royal Kahala, she has a more progressive profile.

Winners of the Solerina Hurdle are two from three in this and she has to have every chance of following up.

Gauloise – Willie Mullins

Gauloise was unbeaten going into the Solerina Novices’ Hurdle but was giving three pounds to the winner.

She was working her way into contention when the race was all over.

She may benefit from a step up in trip rather than dropping down slightly here.

There will be better days ahead for her but this might all be happening too quickly for her.

The Glancing Queen – Alan King

The Glancing Queen is bidding to end the Irish stranglehold on this race but will need to improve on what she shown so far.

She was firmly put in her place by Wilde About Oscar at Exeter last time.

A return to better ground may see her in a better light and she has won over half a mile further in the past.

It will be of no surprise to see plenty of use made of her in this.

She would need to improve several pounds to get near the Irish raiders.

Glens Of Antrim – Willie Mullins

Glens Of Antrim has finished runner up on both of her previous starts and has made steady progress throughout the year.

This represents a noticeable step back in trip and some notable support in the past few days would seem to indicate that someone thinks it will be of no inconvenience to her.

She also represents JP McManus and it is not impossible that to think that he could have the first two home in this race.

Skyace – Shark Hanlon

Skyace has really thrived since winning at Down Royal in October and followed up that Grade Three win with a Listed success at Punchestown.

She seems to have been around forever so it is hard to believe she is still only a six-year-old.

This step back to two miles may not suit against lesser raced types who are bound to have a lot more natural speed.

She seems up against it again today, but she does in most races and defies her often over-inflated price.

Pont Aval – Wllie Mullins

Pont Aval lost her maiden over hurdles when last seen out at Punchestown.

She travelled kindly and took over two from home to record a nine length success over Casey West.

The stable appears to have younger and lesser exposed sorts in Hook Up, Gauloise and Glens Of Antrim and she may have her work cut out against them.

Magic Daze – Henry De Bromhead

Magic Daze won a run of the mill maiden at Clonmel on what was her second start under rules for Henry De Bromhead.

She seemed to appreciate the drop to this two-mile trip and she beat a decent sized field in that event.

She reacted positively to the heavy ground on offer that day, so may struggle on anything better than that.

There are brighter days ahead for this five-year-old.

Ticks The Right Boxes?

2021 Mares Novices Hurdle Tips

Roseys Hollow was an impressive winner of the Solerina Hurdle last time out and it would be of little surprise if she were to continue on an upward curve by taking this.

Willie Mullins has maintained a tight grip on this race since its inception, but this is the most open renewal that I can remember.

None of his representatives this time around particularly stand out.

Glens Of Antrim would be the one who could possibly offer the biggest resistance to the selection.
